Date: 17 October 2009
Venue: C@C Shelter
Event: Open Morning
On 17 October the Shelter opened its doors to the public and welcomed a steady stream of prospective volunteers and local dignitaries. Pete, the Charity’s Treasurer and long-standing volunteer, gave tours of the building and explained the work that we do throughout the year and the harsh realities of being homeless at Christmas.
We gained many new supporters and volunteers. A typical example was the visitor who had heard Pete promoting the Open Morning on Radio Bristol and came along knowing very little about the Charity. He felt he had been fortunate in his own life and wanted to ‘give something back.’
Date: 30 September 2009
Venue: Horts Wine Bar
Event: Hosts’ Networking Social
On 30 September we held a networking social for our Nightstop hosts at Horts Wine bar in Bristol. The evening proved very successful with 20 hosts taking the opportunity to get together, enjoy a buffet, discuss their experiences, and meet trustees and staff. We plan to have another event planned for March 2010, which will also be open to anyone interested in becoming a host.

Venue: Bristol Docks
Event: Dragon Boat Festival
After months of intense training(!), and on a beautiful sunny day, the Caring at Christmas crew took to the water for three rounds of racing against other charities. The team of volunteers, dressed as Father Christmas and ably led by Claire, delivered an admirable second in the first race followed by a couple of third places as the hot weather and sense of occasion (there was a pub nearby!) took their toll.
It was a wonderful day. The team raised nearly £2,000 as well as helping to promote the Caring at Christmas charity. Our sincere thanks to all who took part and/or supported us.
