Caring at Christmas
Caring at Christmas is a registered charity that helps homeless people at Christmas and throughout the year. Over the Christmas week, we run an emergency shelter for people who are homeless or vulnerably housed in Bristol.
What we do?
- Offer a warm safe space with things most people take for granted such as a bed, a shower, 3 hot meals a day, a clean set of clothes and companionship at a time of year which can be particularly difficult.
- Provide services and entertainments, e.g. access to doctors, nurses and first aid treatment, massages, aromatherapy, reiki, hairdressers, art and writing workshops and live music. Our guests can also watch TV or a DVD, read a book or play a game with one of our volunteers.
- Offer a range of opportunities for volunteers to contribute and gain new skills, e.g. through training. Roles throughout the year (and in particular during the run-up to Christmas) include admin support, helping in the store, fundraising and talking to groups about our work. During Christmas week we need help in the kitchen, socialising with our guests and general duties to ensure the smooth running of the Shelter.
Nightstop
- Identify and facilitate emergency temporary accommodation and support for young people through the Nightstop project.
